"Talent" Thursday

Tonight at Montreat we had what is called a ‘Variety Show’ where people go up on stage and do a performance in order to show off their "talents." We had 6 out of our 8 youth members perform in the Variety Show. Liam performed on his guitar and sang "Everlong". Haley, Ruth, Katy, William, and Charlie performed a choreographed musical number of "Crocodile Rock". Before the show, we hosted some of the youth members and leaders of First Presbyterian Church Bay Minette for a spaghetti dinner. It was quite a great day at the end of it all.

A Wild Wednesday

Today we had our free afternoon. After we went to worship and small group, we came back to the house for lunch and then we left for Black Mountain. The girls went to the grocery store and then we went to go get ice cream. The boys explored Black Mountain for a little while longer and bought some interesting things. Charlie bought a dinosaur puppet and Patrick bought a funny book. Once everyone got back home, we all took naps because we’re all super tired. We had worship at 9pm and then we came back to the house for back home group.

Tuesday yeah

Today went normal. Everyone had a good time in small groups and finally got back to the house in time to prepare dinner.

Tacos:

Preparing tacos was the highlight of today. We chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and cooked the taco meats. Tacos tasted amazing \(o o)/ and we also had lots of watermelon that Annie cut up. The girls did the preparing and after dinner the boys cleaned up. Now we wait until it’s time for commission. Anna got her hair braided by Annie, the other girls did their own hair, and everyone just hung out until it was time to go to the auditorium.

We had fun but now It’s time for bed and start tommorrow a new day. 👋🏼

Monday at Montreat!

Today we had the first full day of the conference. The day started with the boys cooking breakfast. We made French toast. Then we went to keynote. Then we each went to our small groups. We had lunch, and then discussed what we each did in small group. Then we went to small group again. When we got back, it was a little while before dinner. So we relaxed. Then the boys cooked dinner. We had hamburgers and hotdogs. Then we went to the night service and to the Huck. It was a fun day.

Sunday!

We started off the day with the girls in the kitchen cooking breakfast. After we ate the boys were on clean up duty. We headed up stairs to change into nicer clothes for worship. While the boys laid in bed and waited till the  last minute to get ready, Haley and Ruth were doing energizers for the vlog and were trying to iron clothes with a straightener. Once we were all down stairs and ready we headed down the hill for worship. The service was very good but a little different from the way we do it. When we got back we had a lot of time to kill before the kickoff. A few of us decided we wanted to hike Lookout mountain. The hike was treacherous but fun. The top was crazy! It was so pretty. The hike was about a mile and a half there and back. Meanwhile at the house everyone who stayed was napping. Once we got back we showered and hung out around the house. We played a really long card game that lasted about an hour, but it was fun and pretty intense towards the end. After killing some time we headed to kickoff. There were energizers and acts. At the end we all headed outside for games and more energizers. We met a lot of new people and some people from our Montreat small groups. We headed back to the house a little bit after that. After dinner and back home group we all headed upstairs to "bed". We really choreographed part of our dance for the variety show , then went to bed.

A TIREsome Journey

Hello and welcome to our youth blog for Montreat Youth Conference 2018! We are very excited to share our stories with you this week. I am Haley Harrell, a recent graduate of Davidson, and I am looking forward to an amazing week in such a truly breathtaking town. Today we began our long haul to Montreat, North Carolina with a couple bumps in the road, both figuratively and literally. About 2 1/2 hours into our journey we got a flat tire and lost our SHPC magnet in the process. Although our tire may have deflated, our spirits did not. This is my second time attending Montreat so it was up to me and my fellow veterans to keep our van full of laughter and smiles. Our 10 hour journey then turned into an over 13 hour journey, but then we finally arrived in the beautiful town of Montreat. After we unloaded the van, we took the group on a little tour to Lake Susan. Our trip has only just begun, and we have already made countless memories and inside jokes that will carry on with us for the rest of our lives.
